How To Get The Most Out Of Your Air-Conditioning

Keeping your house comfortable is a priority. We all want our family to be able to relax and enjoy their home. Keeping everyone at the right temperature plays a big role in doing that.

So, during the summer months, you need your air-conditioning to be effective. But, you do not want to have it on so much that you end up being faced with a huge electricity bill. Fortunately, there is quite a lot you can do to get more out of your air-conditioning and keep the cost of running it down.

Get it serviced regularly

Top of the list is to call a firm like ambientedge.com in to get your central system or individual units serviced. Studies show that properly serviced units are around 15% more efficient. Once the filters get clogged with dust and hair your air-conditioning unit has to work harder to force air through them. So, if you have not done so for a while get your system professionally serviced by Denver air conditioning repair technicians and let it undergo an aircon chemical wash.

Try cooling your home in other ways first

We have all got into the habit of switching our air-conditioning on at the first sign at hot weather. Often, we are actually turning it on long before we need to. There are lots of other ways to keep your home cool that you should try first.

Use your fans

Most people feel cooler when they have air moving across their skin. So, try using your fans first. Often, this works just fine for a couple of weeks.

Try the de-humidifier setting

An awful lot of people forget that their air-conditioning system has a de-humidifier setting. Try turning that on first. Again, you will be stunned by how often this is enough for everyone to feel far more comfortable. Some units use a tenth of the power when set to de-humidifier instead of air-conditioning. That is a huge saving. In many parts of the world, you can get through the first few weeks of the warm weather by mainly using the de-humidifier setting.

Open your windows

Opening your windows during the cooler periods of the day and night can really help too. Provided the temperature is a degree or two lower outside than it is in your home you will notice a difference. This change can reduce the number of hours you have your air-conditioning running by an hour or two each day. You may have to fit insect screens to keep the bugs out. But, the amount you save in electric will soon cover the cost. If you make and install them yourself it will be far cheaper. This short video shows you one way to do it.

Keep the heat out

If you have not already had shutters fitted, consider doing so. Once you get into the habit of shutting them at the right time of day you will not have to use your air-conditioning half as much.

As you can see, none of the above suggestions is difficult to do. Most of them are free or low-cost. So, there really is no reason not to give one or two of them a try.
