Do you have kids that LOVE to make things with play dough? My son just started kindergarten last week and came home the other day talking about how much fun he had with cookie cutters and play dough. The following day I told him that if he had a good day at school that I would make him some play dough and that he could use my cookie cutters. He was excited and when I picked him up from school, the first thing he says is “I remember the play dough”.
Since I really didn’t to make a bunch of batches of play dough, I asked him what color he wanted. Luckily he just said he wanted blue, so blue homemade play dough is what I made. I love how easy and cheap it is to make. For those that want to get crafty in your kitchen, here is the recipe to make some play dough too!
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup salt
- 1 tablespoon coconut or vegetable oil
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- food coloring
- In a 2 quart saucepan, add all ingredients except food coloring.
- Turn stove on to low/medium heat and stir until it starts to thicken. Add drops of food coloring until you reach desired color.
- Stir until batter gets thick and starts to gather around spoon.
- Remove dough from saucepan and put on plate to cool.
- Shape the dough and have fun.
I have found that a batch of this play dough works good for a stress relief ball. Maybe I am just a big kid, but I still like playing with play dough too!
