I can’t believe we are more than halfway through the first month of the new year. In less than a month I will be a year older but it is also Valentine’s Day. I always like to do crafts, color pictures and have fun with the kids on this day.

Valentine’s Day Crafts For Kids

If you are into crafts like me, the internet has a wealth of ideas at your fingertips. Below are different crafts for kids that are geared towards Valentine’s Day. Click on the image of the craft to take you to the directions on how to make it!

Heart Crayon Valentines – If you don’t want to send your kids to school with candy, here is a fun idea involving crayons.

Family Night Love Tree Valentine Craft – Here is a super CUTE craft that I want to make with my kids. You use their hands for the trees and then make cute heart shaped leaves.

DIY Recycled Seed Paper Heart Valentines – I LOVE this idea for homemade Valentines. With this neat craft you make heart shaped Valentines that include paper, food coloring, seeds and a heart shaped cookie cutter. You could of course make other shops. How creative is this Valentine that when planted, something will grow!

DIY Cupid’s Arrow Non Candy Valentine – Now here is a CUTE and EASY craft to make with the kids. This is pretty affordable too. You just need some construction paper, pencils, scissors and some tape.

Bee Valentine’s Mailbox – I remember making cute bags as a child for my Valentine’s Day cards. I never made a mailbox but this one has me wanting to make one just for fun. You can make your own Bee Valentine’s Day mailbox and matching cards to go with it. How cool is this?

DIY: Mickey’s New Year Celebration Hat

This New Years Eve we plan on staying home. I have been looking for some fun ways to celebrate with the kids. I’m thinking of ringing in the new year with these CUTE party hats featuring Mickey Mouse.

DIY Owl Christmas Ornament (Tutorial)

One thing my son LOVES is birds. One of his favorite kind of birds would have to be the owl. He loves real owls, he loves stuffed animal owls and he had a BLAST making these owls below…

DIY Owl Christmas Ornament

This month I received some cool Crayola products and was asked to make a craft using the products that I received. Since I like to make ornaments each year with the kids, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to use the products.

Here is the items we used to make our owl ornaments:

Crayola markers/crayons (to color feathers & wings)
Crayola Washable Glitter Glue (to glue on the feathers & wings)
Crayola Model Magic (for the eyes and beak)
Cardboard & white paper (for eyes)
Muffin liners – 8 per owl (for feathers & wings)
Ornament hook (to hang your owl on tree)

Making the owls was pretty easy. My 5 year old, 9 year old and 16 year old participated, so this is a craft that is for all ages. Now for the instructions….

1) You want to cut about an 1 inch off of your toilet paper roll.

2) Next you are going to want to push down on each side to make the ears.

3) Next fold 6 muffin liners in half and cut out center. If you are careful and just cut out the center, they will fit perfectly around the toilet paper roll. If you cut too big, you will have to fold them a little and glue them on.

3) Next color the 6 muffin liners (your owls feathers). You will also want to color the other two liners which will be the owl’s wings. For best results, color both sides. Once your six feathers are colored, put them on the toilet paper roll. I added some glue around the edges to keep the feathers secure. Put the other 2 liners (the wings) to the side.

4) For the owl’s eyes I took a piece of white paper and glued it on cardboard. Then drew the shape of the two eyes and cut them out. I then used some of the black Crayola model magic to make the pupil.

5) After you are done making your eyes, you are going to want to glue them on the toilet paper roll. I also took some red and yellow Crayola Model Magic to make an orange beak.

6) You are now going to want to clue your wings on your owl. First glue the wings together like shown below, then when dry, glue onto toilet paper roll.

7) Once your owl is completely dry, put it on a shelf or add a hook on the back and hang it on your tree.

DIY Paper Doll Costume

In just a little over 3 weeks it will be Halloween and lots of ghosts and goblins will be knocking on our doors asking for tricks or treats. If you have children, are they dressing up this year? We haven’t got costumes yet but my kids already know what they want to dress up as.

For those that are looking for something unique, the Spoonful website has a Paper Doll Costume in their crafts section on their site that I think is a really cool idea. I remember when I was a little girl, I LOVED playing with paper dolls.

Here are the supplies that you will need for this project:

diagrams and templates
poster board
paint
black marker
headband
duct tape
foam core
hot glue (an adult’s job)
elastic and Velcro straps
white t-shirt and shorts (concealed by the costume)
frilly socks and Mary Janes
