Yesterday morning I felt like a bad mom. It was the day before Halloween and I had not taken my kids to get pumpkins yet. I normally take them about a week or two before Halloween. With my busy schedule lately, Halloween kinda just came so quickly.
So yesterday afternoon I packed up the kids and headed off to the pumpkin patch. We drive to the pumpkin patch that we go to EVERY year and it was GONE. For a couple minutes I was a little sad. My daughter Hannah who is 6 now has been to this pumpkin patch every year. I kind of felt that it wasn’t going to be there though and was prepared. See, this particular pumpkin patch is one that you can see from the freeway. I had passed this area on the freeway a couple times in the last week and I could not remember seeing the pumpkin patch. Usually they have a carnival rides and a big maze, so you can definitely see it when you pass it. So I already had plans on a second pumpkin patch in case this one wasn’t there.
When we arrived at the second pumpkin patch, I am greeted by a lady charging $4 to park. I was not going to argue, I paid the $4 and we went on our way. I parked and kids were so excited because they could see all the people in the pumpkin patch ahead and all the pumpkins. When we first got there, I put him in a big yellow wagon. Once we got into the patch, I let him loose….
You should have seen my son. He was like a kid in a candy store with all the pumpkins. He will be 3 in a couple months and has already taken a liking for pumpkins. He got out and RAN after his sister. It was so cute seeing him run with a big smile on his face looking at all those bright orange pumpkins. Hannah and Christopher picked up so many small little pumpkins looking for the perfect one. I didn’t think I was going to be able to leave this place without a fight.
Okay, there was a little bit of a fight when it was time to leave. My son did not want to leave this pumpkin patch, but I bet I was not the only one with this problem. I couldn’t be mad that my son didn’t want to leave pumpkin land….
We left the pumpkin patch with 5 pumpkins. Ariyona and I picked out 2 larger pumpkins to carve. The other 3 were Christopher and Hannah’s pumpkins they picked out. They both got one of the little pumpkins and one larger one to carve.
Warning – be careful with toddlers and pumpkins if you have tile floors
The pumpkin we got for Christopher and Hannah to carve kinda cracked. My son picked the pumpkin up and dropped it. So guess what mommy got to do? I made homemade pumpkin pie from SCRATCH. Luckily my friend Rhea just recently posted a recipe for homemade pumpkin pie, so I jumped to her post to help me with a recipe. The pumpkin pulp actually made 2 pies (see below) and I can’t wait to eat them today. I cheated and had some last night before it cooled completely and it was good. I know its going to be DELICIOUS today COLD with whip cream!
Happy Halloween and be SAFE!
I made a chocolate cake and let my son lick the batter of the beater. I think most of it ended up on his face and the couch.
My friend Rhea at Mommy to Three Monkeys is currently doing a 30 day blog meme. I don’t think I can dedicate myself to doing 30 different posts, but I did want to take part in this specific day of the meme, My Favorite Things. Okay, now let me really think about 20 different things that I like that you may now know already. Note: these ARE NOT in order of preference
I would love to know if you share any of my favorites. Leave me a comment below and let me know your favorites!
