HIT Favorites: Preschool Fun DVD Review and Giveaway

If you have a little one that is around preschool age, there is a new video that just hit the shelves on July 5th that you might want to grab. Since it is summer and the kids are at home looking for things to do, I am glad that I have DVDs handy that they can play that will keep them entertained. I know that too much TV is not good, but there are times when it is necessary for mom to get some quiet time here at the house.

Family Fun In The Sun: Jake’s Barbecue Sauce Review

When it is not so hot during the summer days, I like to get out the grill. I like to cook, so know that I like to get my BBQ on whenever I get a chance. My husband usually does the grilling and I prepare the side dishes. There are times where I will do the grilling too, as long as it is not in the triple digits. Some days here in California get extremely hot and there is no way you are going to catch me outside in from of the grill.

One condiment that I would say is my favorite is BBQ sauce. I use it every single time we grill and I also use it in some of my meals. BBQ sauce is especially good for a dipping sauce in my opinion.  You will always find an extra bottle of BBQ sauce in my pantry and I like a variety.

This past week on the 4th of July we had a BBQ. We made chicken breasts and ribs and used some of the Jake’s Original Mild Barbecue Sauce. This stuff is YUMMY. This BBQ sauce is made up of a super secret blend of spices, salts, mustards and more. All of the ingredients used are all natural too! Sometimes my children are picky when it comes to BBQ sauce and I did not hear a single complaint. My daughter Hannah actually asked for extra BBQ sauce on her leftovers the next day. I am sold!

Another product that I used with my meal was one of Jake’s Righteous Rubs. We received for review Jake’s Pure Santa Maria Dry Rub.  If you want to give your meat a kick to it, this is something you might want to use. This is a simple rub that combines the some of the purest all natural ingredients such as Kosher Salt, parsley, coarse ground black pepper, garlic and spices to create a traditional style Santa Maria Dry Rub.

Both of these two products together made my meal taste GREAT. My family was pleased and so were my guests. I definitely want to check out some of Jake’s other BBQ products.

Weight Watchers Cheese Review

One thing I LOVE to snack on is cheese. I also use it with a majority of our meals here at our house. . When it comes to counting calories, I am not very good. I am one that likes food but don’t like the pounds that it can add to my body when I am not watching.

Last month a variety of Weight Watchers cheese for review. Since I go through quite a bit of cheese each month, I was really interested in trying these products. I have bought other products such as low-fat cheese from the store, but was wondering about what the Weight Watchers cheese products tasted like.

The first thing my husband and I had to try was the Natural Light Smoked Mozzarella String Cheese. We both like smoked cheese and had never seen a smoked string cheese product before. The smoked string cheese has a nice smoky flavor and I couldn’t tell it was a reduced fat product.  The Weight Watchers Smoked String Cheese have only a 50 calorie value on each stick which makes these a great snack item as well as a great source of calcium.

The next thing that I got to try for my review is the Weight Watchers Cream Cheese Spread. This is another reduced fat product that I have enjoyed using this month. I actually used it in my 7 layer dip on the Fourth Of July and my guests didn’t even know it. This product comes in an 8oz package and is only 60 calories per serving as well as a good source of fiber.

Another product that I want to mention is the Weight Watchers Natural Reduced Fat Mexican Style Blend Shredded Cheese. Out of all the different types of cheese, this is something we go through a TON of. I usually buy big bags of Mexican Style Cheese since I use it on so many different things from tacos, burritos, salads, on my eggs, you name it.

These are just three of the cheese products from Weight Watchers. There are so many more that I wouldn’t mind giving a try. You can find the whole line of Weight Watchers cheese products here.

The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure DVD Review

I will have to say that the Smurfs were probably one of my most favorite cartoons growing up. I remember having Smurf dolls, clothing, bedding, posters, SMURF everything! Out of the whole Smurf gang, Smurfette and Papa Smurf have always been my favorites.

Yesterday, my family got to watch the NEW DVD coming out July 18, 2011 that Smurf fans are going to want to grab, The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure. This DVD is a collection of 10 different hit ‘80s Saturday morning cartoon series Smurfs episodes that include:

  1. Smurf Van Winkle – Lazy is tricked into believing he’s slept his life away.
  2. Revenge of the Smurfs – The Smurfs try to get even with an army that’s stormed their village.
  3. Magic Fountain – The Smurfs search for a magic fountain.
  4. Smurf Me No Flowers – Lazy is led to believe he has only a few days to live.
  5. The Cursed Country – An evil master captures Smurfs to work in his diamond mine.
  6. The Blue Plague – Brainy gives the Smurfs a meal that makes them feel like chickens.
  7. The Ring of Castellac – The Smurfs return a drugged duke to his rightful place.
  8. A Mere Truffle – Tracker loses his memory while leading the Smurfs on a truffle hunt.
  9. Gormandizing Greedy – Greedy gains weight after a diet of sweets and desserts.
  10. Sister Smurf – Smurfette and a young girl are held captive by an old hag.

When my children watched this DVD yesterday, it made me smile. I enjoy watching the smiles on their faces watching shows that I enjoyed when I was a child too. The Smurfs was so interesting to my children that they had to watch it again today. It brings back lots of childhood memories so this was definitely a great DVD to add to our movie collection.

The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook Review

One of my FAVORITE kind of books is a cookbook. I have quite the collection of cookbooks and LOVE every one of the books in my collection. I recently added another book to my collection that happens to be really COOL!

I had the opportunity to review The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook by Dinah Bucholz. My kids and I enjoy the Harry Potter movies, so I knew I had to have this book. This book has more than 150 magical recipes for wizards and non-wizards alike. Each recipe in this book is on it’s own page or pages and has a little story or saying that goes along with it at the top which makes it fun to read. If you are a Harry Potter fan and wonder what the foods taste like that he talks with his friends about in the movies, you will want to grab a copy of this cookbook for your kitchen. Here are the names of just a few of the fun recipes you will find:

  • Triple Power Icy Lemon Drops
  • Treacle Pudding
  • Knickerbocker Glory
  • Peppermint Humbugs

Like I mentioned, these are just a few of the fun recipes you will find. There are actually over 150+ easy-to-make recipes in this book that sound mighty good! Now you can make the PERFECT Harry Potter meals straight from the pages of your favorite stories……

If you know anyone that is a Harry Potter fan that likes to cook, this would be a PERFECT gift.  The only thing missing from the cookbook is photos of the recipes, but I think they would take away from the “wizard or witch” type of look that cookbook that this resembles. Even though I am a big fan of cookbooks with photos, I think this book is awesome just the way it is….
