Today the TV was on and an emergency broadcast came on. Now normally it is just a test. This time it was NOT a test. The TV was telling me there was a tornado warning for Sacramento County. Oh crap, the world is coming to an end. I have been telling myself that I am not going to worry about the world ending until weird weather starts happening near me. Today was just a little scary. Then later a tornado hit in Yuba County which is only 45 minutes away. I don’t think it did any damage but how much closer can it really get.

I went outside and snapped some shots. The local TV station was asking for weather photos on Facebook and I thought I would participate. I even uploaded two to their website as they said they would be showing them on the news tonight. I really had no desire to watch the news, I didn’t need to worry myself before I go to bed tonight.

Yesterday was a bit of a crazy day. I don’t live in a bad area, but my neighbor across the street seems to be always doing something bad (or at least his friends). Yesterday the cops arrive along with a firetruck and an ambulance. I guess someone had accidentally shot some sort of pellet gun and it hit someone in the arm. I seen that the fireman looked a little bored outside, so I took my Christopher outside to check out his truck.

When we walked up to the truck, the fireman asked if Christopher wanted to check it out. I said of course, he was only a fireman for Halloween last year. So the fireman took Christopher out of my arms and gave him a tour of his truck. My son was a little shy at first (like when he sits on Santa’s lap), but he wasn’t going to give up the opportunity to go inside that firetruck to check it out. This fireman is SUPER nice I will say. He has been to my house a couple times the past few years and has always been pleasant. I was pretty happy that he was taking his time out to show my son all about the truck. He showed him the different compartments on the outside and all the houses, it was pretty neat.

So while the neighbor was having a BAD day, at least we got some enjoyment out of it….

And for those of you that might have noticed, my son got a haircut finally! No more long curls…………..

During the weekdays, this mom has her “Mom Taxi” schedule to take care of. I wake up and drive Ariyona to school, then come home and I get Hannah ready school. Once she is ready, I then take her off to school to eat breakfast with her friends. After Stop 2, I come home and wait for the hubby and son to wake up so that I can make breakfast for the three of us. Once the kids get home from school, I then can prepare a dinner for the whole family. We LOVE our family dinners, especially our weekly Taco Tuesday tradition.

Since my children go to different school and  have different time schedules, the weekdays consist of me driving back and forth. When it comes to the weekends, this mom enjoys the couple days that I don’t have to get up and take kids to school early in the morning. I also get to make breakfast for the whole family together. To me, meals at the table together are something I truly enjoy and value. Some things that we eat together as a family on the weekends are breakfast burritos, waffles, country potatoes, pancakes and especially my homemade donuts. One thing we can all drink with our breakfast without a complaint is orange juice. I don’t know about you, but sometimes orange juice can just make the whole breakfast. When we eat together on the weekend, it is a great time to recap all of the events and memories of the week.

To help our families get the emotional and physical fuel needed to start our days off in the right direction, the Florida Department of Citrus has recently partnered with parenting expert and author, Dr. Michele Borba and nutritionist and author, Elizabeth Ward, to offer simple and healthy morning solutions. Below are some tips that you might find useful.

Nutrition Tips from Elizabeth Ward, M.S., R.D.:

• Eating a nutritious breakfast can greatly impact your day and has even been associated with weight loss and weight maintenance, as well as improved nutrient intake. Breakfast eaters tend to have more energy throughout the day and, because they are not as likely to be hungry, they often have an easier time managing their weight than those who skip breakfast. , , , So sit down with your family around the breakfast table or grab something on the go – you’ll help each person get a good start to the day.
• Look for juices that specifically say “100% Juice” on the information panel and avoid beverages with names such as “cocktail,” “beverage,” “drink” or “-ade.” Such juice concoctions often have added sugars and typically do not provide the natural variety and amount of nutrients found in 100 percent fruit juices such as 100 percent orange juice.

Parenting Tips from Dr. Michele Borba:

• A simple way to connect is by designating time in your family’s normal morning routine as “unplugged time” – without turning on the television, computer or video games. Start with just 10 minutes and gradually work your way up to more unplugged mornings.
• Instead of rushing out the door, talk to your kids as you pour a glass of nutrient-rich 100 percent orange juice together while you pack a healthy breakfast to go.
