When I was young I played softball. I might have not that good, but it was a sport that I liked and enjoyed playing. I sometimes wished that my girls would want to play softball because I remember the fun memories that I made back then. When you join a team, you also make new friends which is always FUN. This year my oldest daughter joined the high school softball team. I thought it was pretty neat she joined the team to see if she liked the sport. She is no longer on the team, but I am happy that she gave it a chance.

Now my son just turned five last month and I am hoping that he wants to play baseball. The season starts next month and I am hoping that we can sign him up for T-Ball so he can become part of a team and make new friends. My kids spend quite a bit of time at home and we are always encouraging them to find something to do. Once I sign him up I think it would be fun to go buy him his first set of sports equipment like his first glove and cleats. If he really enjoys the sport like I did, it would also be fun to take him to his first real major league game too!

So for those of you with children, what sports do they or have they played?

So yesterday I had a dentist appointment and I almost cancelled. I don’t know about you, but the thought of having a tooth pulled is scary even if you have had teeth pulled out before. Though my childhood my mom was pretty good at taking me to to the dentist. I have had my fair share of dental appointments, but my trip yesterday has me not wanting to go back anytime soon.

Let me remind some years back. When I was pregnant with my daughter Hannah I ate some Laffy Taffy and it pulled out one of my fillings. Since I was pregnant, there wasn’t much that I could do since you are not supposed to have x-rays when you are pregnant so I put going the dentist off for a while. After Hannah was born I went to the dentist and ended up having a root canal on my tooth. Now that December will be here in just hours, I am expecting to see more houses in my neighborhood hang their Christmas lights and decorations. Not only are people in the spirit to decorate, people are in the spirit to shop.  I know that I am wanting to shop more!

As always I will be doing some of my holiday shopping online, along with millions of others eager to find discounts and good buys for gifts for their family and friends. Below are some tips I want to share with you to help you to not only shop smarter, but safer too!

1. Regularly update your PC anti-virus software to prevent hackers from stealing your personal info while shopping.
2. Make sure the website is secure before you hit submit on your purchase by looking for https in the link to the site you are, not http.
3. Avoid shopping on public computers to help prevent theft of your personal information.
4. Regularly check online statements to help identify credit theft.
5. Links appearing to lead to known retailers but w/ slight variations of URL can be attempts to steal personal info.
6. Pop-ups mimicking the look of common retailers can be fraudulent sites trying to steal credit information.
7. Make sure your screen name does not reveal information such as your real name or location.
8. Point of sale terminals can be unsafe. It’s usually safer to hand your card to a cashier to be run through a register.

Over the last 6 months I learned some interesting and important information about girls and their dreaded periods. I remember I started my period at school in junior high and to me, it was embarrassing. I remember having to go to the school nurse to tell her I think I started my period and  to ask for some pads. Once I had daughters of my own, my goal was to educate and prepare them before something embarassing like this ever happened to them. Believe it or not but I am a shy person, always have been and having to go to the nurse to talk about a period was not my idea of fun.

When I became a U By Kotex Tween Ambassador, I thought I knew what there was to know. I am in my mid thirties and have had my fair share of periods, cramps and mood swings.  What I didn’t know is that girls can start their period as young as 8. For me, I always thought of girls starting their periods in junior high, I guess because that was the time when I started mine. Having a daughter that just turned 8 in July, I now have been having talks with her to let her know why her sisters and mom can be moody at times and what the colorful Kotex products under the sink are used for.

I think the U by Kotex product line is awesome. My 13 year old daughter thinks they are pretty cool too, for pads! I don’t think there is any female out there that enjoys having their period, it is just something we have to deal with.
