I’m Learning With Lynda.com

For the last year or more I have been wanting to join Lynda.com. I am one of those people that LOVE to learn but haven’t had the extra time to go sign up for a the college courses I would like to take. With that being said, I am always trying to find new ways to learn the things I want to learn online in my free time.

For those that have never heard of Lynda.com, it is a site that offers over 1,420 online courses and over 80,000 videos covering a HUGE variety of topics. This is perfect for those of you that want to learn at home online and learn only the topics that you choose whenever you want. With Lynda.com you are able to learn at your own pace (perfect for me) and a way to always keep up to date.

Since the kids are going back to school next week, I will be learning some things at home too while they are learning at school. Since I own a Nikon D5100 that I only know how to shoot in Auto mode, I thought I would smart to watch the videos available for  my Nikon D5100 on the Lynda.com website.

They also have a course like this one for the Nikon D7000 too! There are so many topics that I want to learn on this site that I am really excited to be a member. I was able to see a screening of The Odd Life Of Timothy Green this past weekend in New York during BlogHer’12. This is now one of my favorite Disney movies which I will be watching again in just a couple days with my daughters in my home town.

What Do You Do Online For Entertainment?

I remember  back in the nineties using the internet to get on the internet relay chatrooms known as IRC. It was a way to keep busy without having to worry about all the weirdos on the AOL chatrooms. I used a free program and would go to the same chatroom every day and chat with the same online friends. That was back in the day when I used AOL’s dialup service. Those sure were the days.

I remember when I found the online bingo websites years ago. I would play on the popular bingo websites for hours hoping to win some extra money to go shopping with. I did win money several times but I also lost more often than I won. What is addicting about the bingo sites are the free bonuses that they give you when you setup an account. I would try to win with the free bonuses but that didn’t always happen and I eventually stopped playing. I know someone that has played for YEARS though and never seems to give up on it.

I have spent HOURS online reading stuff. I also have to admit that I have spent quite a bit of time playing online games. I have played Webkinz with my children and that popular Runescape game that my friend Shannon told me about. Today, I mainly use Facebook for my form of entertainment. On Facebook I can chat with my family and friends, play online games and participate in discussions in the groups I am a member of. Since I spend quite a bit of time online working, I try not to spend that much time online games and spend my free time with my children.

So what do you do online that wastes time?

 

Great Movies New On Blu-Ray For A Movie Night

Since it has been HOT here in California lately I have spent quite a bit of time inside to stay away from the heat. When I am not working on my computer, I enjoy watching movies in my free time. My Blu-ray player has the Netflix option so when I am not watching an actual Blu-ray Disc, I am watching something on Netflix to keep me entertained.

Just this past Friday I had a movie night which was fun. I rented a movie from Redbox and bought some goodies for the family. I thought I would recommend some good movies that have recently came out on the Blu-ray Disc that you might want to grab for a movie night too!

#1 Step Up – Only $14.95 on Amazon

For all you Channing Tatum fans, this is a must see. I just recently watched this and LOVED it!

#2 Phenomenon – Only $15.93 on Amazon

This is another movie that I just recently watched that I really liked. One of those movies that I am definitely going to watch again.

#3 – Under The Tuscan Sun – Only $14.99 on Amazon!

Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book, Under The Tuscan Sun follows San Francisco writer Frances Mayes (Lane) on a ten-day trip to Tuscany. Once there, she is captivated by the beautiful Italian countryside, and impulsively buys an aging, but charming villa. I seen this movie when it came out, but it is worth watching again on Blu-ray if you have already seen it before.

#4 The Horse Whisperer – Only $15.93 on Amazon!

After a devastating riding accident, a young girl and her beloved horse are left with serious physical and emotional scars. When her mother calls on the “Horse Whisperer” to help, she meets a rugged rancher who not only has an extraordinary gift with animals, but also an ability to enrich the lives of people around him.

If you are a Robert Redford fan, you will enjoy watching this movie on Blu-ray. I wish my grandmother had a Blu-ray player because I know she would LOVE to watch this one again.
