I was invited to the #ABCTVEvent. Costs and expenses for my trip were covered. All opinions expressed are my own.
This past month I have been posting about my trip to Los Angeles and all the fun things I got to do and the people I was able to meet and interview. One of my most favorite parts of the trip was our trip to Walt Disney Animation Studios to have a cocktail hour.
Once we arrived at the studio we were led to the outside terrace where we we able to mix and mingle with some of the “Moms Of ABC”. These are actresses on different shows produced by ABC who are real-life moms or play the role of a mom. Here is the lineup of the moms that we got to hang out with for hour that went by to fast.
While we are chatting with these ladies, there were drinks and food that were being served. I ordered a drink but never got a chance to try the food. The “Moms Of ABC” had my attention over the food. While I didn’t get to individually chat with all of the moms mentioned above, I did get to sit down with four of them, chat about our lives and even take some pictures.
When Malin Akerman sat down right next to me I was so amazed. Just a few months prior I was searching Hulu for shows to watch and found “Trophy Wife“. I watched the first episode and was hooked. If you watch the show, she is just as funny and charming in person as on the show.
During my chat with Malin we discussed her role on the show along with some of my favorite scenes. Malin also shared how she loves being a mom now and how she is able to bring her son to the set and how the cast is like family.

Next Toks Olagundoye from “The Neighbors” sat down to chat. I will admit that I hadn’t seen any episodes of “The Neighbors” prior to my trip. When talking with Toks Olagundoye, her accent is what first got my attention.
Toks told us about how she grew up in Nigeria and how she moved to the United States to go to school and start a career. After chatting with Toks, I wanted to watch the show and even had a little “The Neighbors” marathon the next weekend just for her. We have been keeping in touch via Twitter…
What I found neat was finding out that my nine year old daughter has been a fan of the show. When I told my daughter I was going to watch “The Neighbors” Season One in a weekend, she already knew all about the show, the cast and even knew who Toks was. I had to let Toks know that my daughter was a fan and here is a little tweet she sent for my daughter.
The next mom to sit next to me was Patricia Heaton. Right now she plays Frankie on “The Middle“, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE her from Everybody Loves Raymond. When she sat next to me, I wanted to hug her.
When Patricia sat down and started chatting, the conversation came so easy. While we did discuss her role in The Middle, we had more fun talking about our own personal lives and our kids. While we were chatting, she would nudge me with her elbow which made me feel like we were friends!
Next and last to sit and chat with my group was Amanda Fuller who plays Kristin Baxter on “Last Man Standing“.
As soon as Amanda sat down she asked us where we were from. I mentioned Sacramento and it was a go. Not only was I from Sacramento and Dawn, another blogger from our group, but Amanda was originally from Sacramento too. I think she mentioned moving out of Sacramento when she was around nine, but mentioned some fun times she has had coming back to visit.
Here is a cute picture of me and Jami Gertz who currently plays Debbie Weaver in “The Neighbors”. She is such a great and funny actress that I wish I would have had time to ask her some questions…
Here is a picture I took with Patrica Heaton with Frankie Shaw and Alexis Carra from “Mixology”.
Our cocktail hour at the studio definitely went by too fast! I would have enjoyed having an hour to chat with each one of these ladies individually but I will take what I can get. I got some memories that will last a lifetime as well as some very cool photos to brag with.
One thing I am really enjoying is how active some of these celebrities are on Twitter like Malin and Toks who like to interact with their fans. I felt pretty special once I got home and got a reply from my favorite Trophy Wife!

Disclosure – I was invited to a private screening of #PirateFairy. Costs and expenses for my trip were covered by Disney but all opinions expressed are my own.
Last month I had the opportunity to visit Disney Toon Studios for a private screening of The Pirate Fairy. This was my first time to this studio and I was excited to see all the cool Pirate Fairy decor when we walked into the building.
When I first heard about The Pirate Fairy, I was excited about a new movie that included Tinkerbell but also a new fairy that was sure to cause some mischief. I was also really excited to be able to see it before it came out so I could share the inside scoop with my daughter Hannah who LOVES all the Tinkerbell fairies.
About The Pirate Fairy:
When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow. My Pirate Fairy Film Review:
I have to say that I really LOVE the twist with this new fairy that Disney has created. She is fun, daring and adventurous. What makes this movie special to me is how they brought the fairies with their fun powers to Neverland. If you were a fan of Peter Pan and Captain Hook like I was growing up, this movie might bring back some good memories.
With this movie having a pirate them, my 6 year old son watched it with us even though it has fairies. Normally he wouldn’t go for watching a Tinkerbell movie but I let him know that there were some pirates, a neat pirate ship and a FUN crocodile he had to see. I asked my daughter Hannah what her favorite part of the movie was. She told me she loved it when the fairies switch their powers. I thought that was pretty neat too! My favorite part is the magical ending which you have to see for yourself.
I love how a lesson is learned in this film with this new fairy. Even though Zarina does something she isn’t supposed to do and betrayed her friends, her loyal friends do what they can to help her and bring her back home.
Here are some fun pictures I took at Disney Toon Studios of the #PirateFairy decor…
Disclosure – I was invited to the #MuppetsMostWantedEvent. Costs and expenses for my trip were covered by Disney but all opinions expressed are my own.
If you have seen Muppets Most Wanted or The Muppets you will know that these movies include some amazing music. Music that makes you want to sing along or at least sing along in your head even when the song has stopped. I have the soundtrack for Muppets Most Wanted and L-O-V-E it!
During my trip to Los Angeles for the Muppets Most Wanted Press Junket we were able to interview Bret McKenzie, the amazing songwriter for the film.
If you haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, it opens with a song called “We’re Doing a Sequel” that was written by Bret McKenzie. Take a peek at the catchy clip:
For those that didn’t know, songwriter Bret McKenzie won an OSCAR in 2012 for Best Achievement In Music Written For Motion Picture for his original song “Man Or Muppet” in The Muppets (2011). This man has some talent when it comes to making these catchy songs and in interviews I have listened to this week, McKenzie has mentioned that there was some sequel pressure when asked to write songs for Muppets Most Wanted.
He obviously works well under pressure because I am in love with the music from the film and so are many others. There are 25 songs on the Muppets Most Wanted Soundtrack to get you going through the day!
During our interview with songwriter Brett McKenzie, here are some of the questions we were able to ask him:
Bret McKenzie: Yeah I was, obviously yeah there was a lot of pressure because of the Oscar and, um, but really what could I do? It was, there’s always gonna be downhill, so, uh, I just had to, you know, I mean I was appreciative but then I had to get on with the job and just, you know, forget about that. ‘Cause I didn’t, I didn’t work on the last muppet film to win awards, you know. Yeah. That’s all we got? Okay, let’s go. You have a t-shirt as well, oh my god. This is like the Muppet Club.
Bret McKenzie: Oh it was really fun working on those, James and Nick Stoller sent me the script and they’re lots of fun, great ideas for songs and then I got to add new ideas and, um, the first song “We’re doing a sequel,” um, they had the original idea then I just started looking through the history of bad sequels and qualities of sequels and there’s so many. And there was one lyric, the–– the first song, the first lyric in the song, um, “We’re doing a sequel, that’s what we do in Hollywood, but everybody knows that the sequel’s never quite as good,” that is, felt like a great start to the movie ’cause it lets the audience know that it’s a, first of all it’s a sequel and then we–– we know that it’s possibly not as good as the last one.
And it’s, you know, like that’s the way they wanted it ’cause he wants kinda the audience can’t but help go, “Oh is this gonna be better than the last one? Let’s see what they do.” So we kinda let them in on that. And then, um, and that’s what I love about the Muppets is they can do that, you can, the Muppets can turn to the audience and look straight at camera and talk to them about how they’re making a movie, and, um, yeah there was one lyric in that I just went through and looked at bad sequels and the qualities in them. Like there was one lyric that Ralph the Dog was gonna sing that, uh, was in the soundtrack but not in the movie where he goes, um, “We’re doing a sequel, how hard can it be? We can’t do any worse than the Godfather III.” So yeah it was a bit of a zinger so we took that one out. But then I like how Piggy can talk about how “there’s no need to disguise,” um, “the studio considers us a viable franchise,” there’s some fun, it was really a fun song to write, yeah. It was good.
Bret McKenzie: Um, well they send me a script with the idea of a song and then, um, I, but it’s usually quite a loose idea. And then for example the ballad, um, it was originally called “Love Ain’t Easy,” and it was a Piggy ballad. And first of all I was nervous because Piggy is a great character, a great comedic character, but not a great singer, and, um, I was worried about her carrying, you know, an emotional ballad because there’s only so much of her voice that the audience, I think, wants to hear, you know.
Thirty seconds is great, you know, then a couple of minutes you’re really start being a bit painful. So I suggested we put, um, you know, try and get a singer to help her and we were really excited when Celine Dion agreed, um, and I’m actually hoping that there’s a, I’m hoping that these two divas, you know, um, I’m hoping to get like a Las Vegas Celine Dion/Piggy, uh, Diva Night, um, that’s–– that’s my dream. Yeah. Anyway so then I would write the song and then adapt it for the characters and, and I’d–– I’d go to the, to James Bobin and play it to him and I’d, one of the stranger experiences on the job is I go to the Disney offices to play the songs to them.
Bret McKenzie: I really like the, um, I really, I mean, I like how all of, sometimes I write songs for these things and they, I don’t like the way they turn out in the final film because I don’t like the video or something changes in the edit and, um, but I–– I really think, uh, the music’s kinda, I think it’s, the film works really well, you know, I really like the–– the final film was made and I guess my favorite would be, I don’t know, I mean, the opening’s pretty fun. I think it really gets the movie off on a–– a great note.
But I do like “I’ll Get You What You Want” brackets Cockatoo and Malibu closed brackets, uh, which is–– is the frogs, the bad frog trying to woo Miss Piggy.
Here is one of my FAVORITE songs from the movie, sung by Bret McKenzie.
Muppets Most Wanted is playing in theaters NOW! Have you seen it yet?
When it comes to things that are girly, I am a mom that LOVES her fairies. Especially fairies named Tinkerbell, Rosetta, Periwinkle and the many others that live Pixie Hollow. For those that haven’t heard yet, there is a new fairy that is causing some mischief down in Pixie Hollow.
When I first heard about The Pirate Fairy, I knew this movie was going to introduce a new fairy that might be a little on the mischievous side. I don’t know about you but when I think of the word “pirate”, I think of ADVENTURE!
This new film by Disney does something magical like always. Disney has now brought Pixie Hollow and Neverland together. If you are a fan of Peter Pan or shall I say Captain Hook, you might really enjoy The Pirate Fairy. You just never know what will happen when you cross Pixie Dust with a pirate ship…
You should see what Skull Rock looks like after all these years later. I think the crocodiles are definitely a lot CUTER! Will Tinkerbell and her friends get to go inside Skull Rock? You will have to watch the movie to find out.
This movie is really magical to me. I was one of those kids that watched Peter Pan and wished I could travel to an island called Neverland so I wanted to know more. I found this video about the film that I want to share that includes some great information from the Director, Producer and Writer of The Pirate Fairy. This video shares what their original idea was before they even thought of a pirate theme.
On my trip to Los Angeles this month, I had the opportunity to visit Disney Toon Studios to not only watch a screening of Disney’s new Pirate Fairy, but also get to meet and talk with the Director and Producer of the show, Peggy Holmes and Jenni Magee-Cook that are in the video above. It was an amazing experience being in the room with these two talented ladies. After listening to them talk about the movie, I seriously envied the job that they have.
Here is a few of the fun questions that our #PirateFairy group was able to ask these ladies about the Disney fairies during our Q&A with them:
With all the fairies, will there be spinoffs?
Jenni: You know, we, um, we don’t have anything, we haven’t- that we can talk about, ’cause it, it’s a director driven studio. So what we really do here is when the directors have a story they want to tell, that’s what they bring to the table and they do- they decide to tell that story. And they talk about it with our teams. But we don’t mandate that they must make anything.
Peggy: But we are in production on the next fairies film, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah we are in production.
I love the way it’s for boys and girls, the sequel was more for both?
Jenni: Yeah it’s, it’s doing really well with boys, I mean, it, in general boys don’t tend to always be the market we have for this audience. But we, we- every time we screen we, we’ve brought boys in for our general audience screenings. And I have boys and they- and my boy is almost thirteen and he said I’m not just kissing up to you, mom. I actually like your movie. It’s almost like as if he said he loves me in public.
Was there any songs that didn’t make it into the movie that you wished made it?
Jenni: That’s so normal that that happens but on this one no.
Why did the movie not run in theaters?
Peggy: Well internationally we’re in forty-two markets. Internationally in theaters. And then, and then we just make our movie and the Walt Disney Company, they…… yeah. I mean, we’re at the El Cap right now, running at the El Cap, which is awesome. But, you know, we just our part is to make the movie and-
Jenni: The powers that be- be.

While at Disney Toon Studios, we also learned that the voice of James in The Pirate Fairy happens to be Tom Middleston. For all of you Middleston fans, be sure to watch this…
