California Wine Club Review – Great Gift Idea

This year I discovered that I like wine. I have also had fun trying different types and flavors of wine this year and determined that I am a fan of the white wines. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good red wines, but if asked which one I prefer out of the two, I would have to go with something white and fruity.

A fun way that I have been able to try some of the different wines available is through my Premier Membership at the California Wine Club. With having a membership to this club, I receive two different wines to try each month. There are different levels of membership too, depending on what types of wines that you want delivered.

In last month’s shipment, I received the Castoro Cellars 2010 “Blind Faith” Paso Robles Pinot Noir. I have to say that this wine had taste that I enjoyed and something I would order again. Right now this is available on the California Wine website for only $13.99 per bottle (regularly $26.00).

Savor the concentrated fruit aromas that are a hallmark of Castoro’s “Blind Faith” Pinot Noir. On the palate, you’ll find black cherry and tea notes, toasty, smoky flavors and every reason to take another sip!

If you have someone on your shopping list that is a fan of wine, a Premier Club Membership to the California Wine Club might make for a great gift idea.

Family Fun In The Sun: Flipflop Wines Review – Part 2

This year I discovered my liking for wine. After doing a review for Flipflop Wines earlier this year, I have been hooked. To make a long story short, I thought I was allergic to wine so I never used to drink it. I decided to try it and to my surprise, I liked it. Now wine is not something I drink every day, but it is something I can enjoy on a hot day or night when I need a cold and refreshing drink.

When it comes to wine, I would say that I am a fan of the white wines and I like mine chilled. Sometimes I even add a piece or two of ice to make my glass of wine super cold. My favorites are the wines that have a “fruity” taste to them. This month I have been enjoying some of the California Chardonnay from Flipflop Wines. This wine is a Chardonnay wine with a pineapple and soft vanilla aftertaste. This is best served chilled and tastes great with Wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, mac & cheese or chicken Caesar salad. I didn’t eat any food with it, I enjoyed it solo! I bet it tastes great with some steak too!

If you are a fan of red wines, Flipflop Wines has three different red wines to choose from. If you are a fan of white wine, there are 4 different YUMMY wines that you are sure to like.  Out of the whole Flipflop Wines lineup, I think the Pinot Grigio or the Washington Riesling just might be my favorites, all though I have liked each of the white wines I have tried from them (read my past review). Now I just need to re-stock my wine supply because I am currently OUT! Since the weather has been HOT here lately, a bottle of chilled wine can be perfect for quenching my thirst.

When it comes to wine, I have to say that Flipflop Wines are my FAVORITE. I love the taste and I love the name of the company. I am a mom who lives in her flip flops, so the name fits this mom perfectly. I also LOVE the fact that for every bottle of Flipflop wine that is purchased, Soles4Souls will distribute a pair of shoes to someone in need. Seems like a win win situation doesn’t it?

The California Wine Club Review And Deal For My Readers

If you have been following along this past week, you may have read that I have been in the mood to try wine. For me, wine was something I didn’t know much about so I just never thought about drinking it. I actually thought of wine as a drink for say the snobs. I remember my old employer whom I consider snobbish would receive a shipment of wine each month. I would have to sign for the wine, but he would get to take it home and drink it. I always hope he would offer to share, but it never happened so I knew it had to be some good stuff in those boxes. With that I was always curious about wine clubs and now I have some hands on experience.

This month I got the nerve to try wine and I now I am really interested in learning more. Just a little over a week ago, I received a shipment of wine from The California Wine Club. I love the fact that you can order wine and have it shipped to your home. I also like that there are wine companies out there that also offer a membership too! When I opened the box from The California Wine Club, it included two bottles of their featured wine for this month as well as their full-colored newsletter “Uncorked”. The newsletter is pretty cool. Inside, I found information about the wines and the history of the wineries that I received. Also included in the newsletter was a wine cheat sheet, a yummy recipe for chile rellenos and lots more goodies for the wine connoisseur or wine enthusiasts like me!

The first bottle that we opened from our shipment of 2 was the 2005 “Los Braceros” Sonoma Valley Red Blend from the Robledo Family Winery. This is a red wine that is for those that like wine that is on the spicy side. Since I prefer a white wine, I let my husband enjoy most of this bottle. We had company over for dinner and this bottle was a perfect treat since it is labeled as a Gold Medal wine. After the bottle was finished I asked him his thoughts. He said he liked it, but it was a little spicy. Here is more information on this wine from their website:

Appearance: Clear bright red garnet color. Aroma & Bouquet: Aromas of black currant, ripe plum with a hint of tobacco. Approach: Rich flavors of ripe black fruit and cedar. Finish: A medium bodied wine with a spicy pepper finish.

The second bottle that I received for review was a hit for me. This would be the 2007 “The Seven Brothers” Lake County Sauvignon Blanc from the Robledo Family Winery. This is a pale yellowish wine that has a tarty but tropical taste to it. I like tarty, I like fruity so this one was my favorite of the two. I did add an ice cube when I had a glass, because I prefer my wine really chilled. Here is more information on this wine from their website:

Appearance: Pale yellow straw color, clear and bright. Aroma & Bouquet: Aromas of honeysuckle, fig and mango. Approach: Concentrated fruit with a green tea and citrus edge. Finish: Rich and complex with a tang of lemon grass.

I am now totally interested in the wine club concept and I looked for other benefits. Not only do you get to try a  new variety of wine each month from different wineries, you can also help be the judge. Included in the shipment of my wine was a scorecard. I can submit my thoughts about the wines I tried to help rate these wines each month. And then there is MORE benefits…..

Earn FREE WINE! Yes, when you become a member of The California Wine Club you can earn Free Wine. When you refer a friend or a family member to the club that become a member, they will double your next month’s shipment. Now that is COOL if you ask me….

DEAL For YOU – Now I look forward to what I am going to receive next month. I would like to also invite you to try out the wine membership too! My nice friend at The California Wine Club is offering my readers a one time shipment that includes 2 bottles of wine for only $13.00. With this one time shipment, there is NO OBLIGATION to stay and you get to choose which types of wines you want to receive. You can choose to receive all reds, all reds or one of each. If you wan tot take advantage of this AWESOME deal, visit The California Wine  Club from this post ans use the promo code momblog-11 when you check out.

If you are interested in becoming a member, there are different levels of their membership depending on your wine preference. You can also have the option of having 3 or 4 wine bottles shipped each month instead of just two. If you are worried about shipping, these bottles are packed in SAFE styra-foam containers. I was very impressed with how secure the bottles where in the box. The outside of the packaging is also discreet for those that prefer to have your wine shipped to say your work address. With wine delivery, an adult has to be home to sign (which is a good thing).

Flipflop Wines Review

Up until just this month, I kinda have been afraid of drinking wine. I actually thought I might be allergic to it because I had an allergic reaction with a drink at a restaurant some years that included champagne on two different occasions. I don’t know why I was silly enough to try the drink twice, but I did. After the second time (probably like 4 – 5 years ago) I decided to just stay clear of champagne and wine all together.

So this month I gave in. My friends and fellow blogger friends are always bragging about wine. I thought it wasn’t fair that I couldn’t brag about wine too, so I decided to give wine another shot. Since it was champagne that triggered the action and not just wine, I thought I might be okay.  Know that when I seen there was a wine company called Flipflop Wines, I had to say YES please. I am a mom who LOVES her flip flops, so a wine named after something I love sounds pretty cool.

My husband and I had the opportunity to review three of seven of the Flipflop Wines. When it comes to wine, I knew that the white wines were going to be my favorite. I am a gal who prefers her drinks chilled, so I had to try the Flipflop Wines. I think their bottles are really CUTE too! The first bottle of Flipflop Wines that I tried was the 2009 Riesling. Out of the 3 that we tried, this also happens to be my FAVORITE.

What does the Flipflop 2009 Washington Riesling taste like? It Tastes Like: Medium-bodied, Riesling with peach, apricot and melon which lead to a satisfying, smooth finish! Since I like fruity drinks, this wine happens to really taste good to me. It gave me a good enough impression of wine to try a second bottle. Not in the same night of course.

The second wine that I tries was the Flipflop Pinot Grigio. Since this is another fruity wine, this one is my second favorite out of the three. The Flip Flop 2009 California Pinot Grigio has a light-bodied taste with tropical citrus with some pear. I think I could keep these two fruity wines on stock for when mom wants to enjoy a nice glass of wine.

The third wine that I had the opportunity to review was a red wine. This would be the Flipflop Pinot Noir. Since I prefer chilled wines, my husband enjoyed this bottle more than me. Since I do enjoy cooking, I am thinking of trying a red wine with one of my meals in the future. What does the 2009 California Pinot Noir taste like? It Tastes Like: Medium-bodied, structured Pinot Noir with bright cherry, sweet spice and a supple, velvety finish.

Thanks to Flipflop wines, I now am a fan of wine and eager to try more, especially their 2009 California Chardonnay! What I also like about this company is that they are helping support a cause behind each sale of their wine. For every bottle of Flipflop wine purchased, Soles4Souls will distribute a pair of shoes to someone in need. How cool is that?
