War Horse Review & Movie Clip

Just months ago I was bummed that I didn’t make it to the theater to watch War Horse. I am a big fan of Steven Spielberg films and wanted to take either my husband or one of my oldest daughters to see it. Unfortunately that didn’t happen and I had to wait until it came out on Blu-Ray so I could enjoy watching it at home.

War Horse Synopsis:

The extraordinary journey of courage and friendship as seen through the eyes of one unforgettable horse named Joey and his miraculous journey to find his way back home, “War Horse” is a must own contemporary classic for everyone’s home entertainment collection. Spielberg’s renowned creative passion and artistry not only shine throughout the film but are also evident in all the fascinating bonus features included exclusively on the Blu-ray disc.

At the beginning of the movie, Albert’s father Ted buys a colt which he immediately starts to regret once he gets home because he has spent too much money and needs money to pay rent. Albert immediately becomes attached to this horse and names him “Joey”. Albert then spends hours with this house, training hims to be a plough horse for their farm. Things go for an unexpected turn and Ted ends up selling Joey to Captain James Nicholls, a young officer that promises Albert he will take care of Joey as his own and will hopefully return him after the war has ended.

Take a peek at this clip:

Even though this movie is geared around the times of World War I, this movie is a great story of friendships and leaves out all the gory details that most would think comes with a war. This horse not only is brave, he touches the hearts of the soldiers and civilians from England to Germany and to France.

War Horse is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, Digital Copy and even Amazon Instant Video. I have the War Horse 4-Disc Combo Pack that includes a Blu-Ray-, DVD, Digital Copy and Bonus Disc that is on sale at Amazon right now for $29.99. This 4-Disc combo back includes a TON of bonus features you will want to watch. Some bonuses include:

  • A Filmaking Journey- A look at the making of War Horse
  • Editing & Scoring – The discussion of the film’s editing and music & more
  • The Sounds of War Horse- Explanation of the movie’s sophisticated sound design
  • Through The Producer’s Lens – Photos during the filmaking

Even though I would have loved to see this in the theater, I am glad that I have a copy of the film to watch at home. Since this is somewhat of a long movie, there were times I had to pause the movie as well as rewind to go back to things I missed. At the theater, I don’t have the luxury of pause and rewind and all the cool bonus features you don’t get when seeing it at the theater.

Jane By Design DVD Review + Video Clip

I am a big fan of the ABC’s Family Channel. This past few months I have been watching Switched At Birth on Tuesdays, but the season has come to an end. Right after Switched At Birth goes off, the show Jane by Design would come on. I watched the first few episodes when it started and wanted to watch it all season. I ended up missing a few episodes so I figured I would wait until it came out on DVD so I can watch the whole season as I want. For me, the shows that I really like, I prefer to watch on DVD or Blu-Ray so I don’t have to worry about seeing or fast forwarding through commercials.

Synopsis: When mistaken for an adult, sixteen year-old Jane (Erica Dasher) finds herself working for a high-powered executive (Andie McDowell) at a hip fashion house.  From classes to couture, relive all the drama, romance and non-stop excitement as Jane juggles her life as a regular teenager and her job in the cutthroat world of fashion…all while trying to keep her true identity a secret.  Bring home ABC Family’s Jane By Design: Volume 1, available on DVD March 20th, just two weeks after the season finale!

Jane by Design: Volume One is now available on DVD and I have a copy in my hands. My daughter Hailey actually got her hands on it first and watched the whole season in just two nights after homework and chores were done. My husband was a little curious at what had Hailey’s attention so much and asked me “what do you have her watching”. For me, I would rather her be interested in a ABC Family show rather than some of the other shows that are on.

If you haven’t seen this show, take a quick sneak peek here:

Lady and the Tramp Blu-Ray Review + Activities

Growing up I just LOVED the Disney film Lady and the Tramp. Of course as a child one of my favorite scenes was watching the famous scene with the two dogs eating a spaghetti dinner together, but I think one of all time favorite scenes is with the Siamese cats. For some reason, I just LOVE the cats and the song that is played and have sung it throughout the years at various and random times.  :)

For those of you that have no clue what I am talking about, take a peek at my FAVORITE Lady and the Tramp scene & song!

We watched this movie this week for one of our family movie nights and it brought back memories of watching it as a child. For those that are unfamiliar with this Disney classic, here is the scoop!

A classic love story unfolds in the best Disney tradition as a lovely young pedigreed cocker spaniel named Lady, who lives a pampered life, finds herself falling romantically for Tramp, an amorous street-smart pooch without prospects. Although they have fun together on several dates, including a sentimental spaghetti dinner by moonlight at Tony’s restaurant, their relationship is strained not only by Lady’s loyalty to her human family and their newborn baby, but by Tramp’s devil-may-care attitude that eventually gets Lady in trouble and tossed into the dog pound. However, good-hearted Tramp redeems himself by saving the baby from potential harm and thus wins Lady’s love and the affection of her human family.

I am excited to say that Disney has released Lady and the Tramp out of their vault on Feb 7 for a limited time. I have a copy of the Diamond Edition on hand and have already enjoyed taking a peek at the Bonus Features and Deleted Scenes! Here is a list of just a few of my favorites:

  • Diane Disney Miller: Remembering Dad – Want to learn more about Mr Disney?
  • The Siamese Cat Song: Finding A Voice For The Cats – Very cool for those of you that like the cats like me!
  • Puppypedia: Going To The Dogs – cute feature that discusses different types of dogs

With the Diamond Edition of Lady and the Tramp, you will receive a Blu-Ray and DVD version. I have played both of them and I totally prefer the Blu-Ray version!

Now for the Lady and the Tramp activities…

Real Steel On Blu-Ray & DVD This Month

One of my all time FAVORITE movies last year was Reel Steel. It was one of those movies that I couldn’t wait to watch again before I even got home from the theater. My husband and I were able to attend a screening of the movie last year and it was a total hit with both of us. We both have been anxiously awaiting for this film to come out on Blu-Ray so we can watch it with the kids. Now that we have a review copy on hand, we have watched it again a couple times. To me, this movie is that good!

For those that have not seen this movie, take a peek at the trailer.

Spy Kids: All the Time in the World DVD Review + Activities

Got a Spy Kids fan on your shopping list? Last month the Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World was released on DVD and Blu-Ray. My daughter Hannah is 7 and is a huge fan of the previous Spy Kids movies. She has the other movies in her DVD collection and was excited to see that mom had a new Spy Kids DVD that she had not seen yet. She watched it this weekend and asked if she could keep the DVD in her room because she really liked it and wants to watch it again.

The action packed franchise is back…with the next generation of Spy Kids! Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all: married to a famous spy-hunting television reporter (Joel McHale), with a new baby and intelligent twin step kids, Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook). When the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) disrupts her domestic bliss—threatening to take over the planet—Marissa comes out of retirement as a top secret agent. With Armageddon quickly approaching, Rebecca and Cecil are thrust into action! With a little help from some familiar Spy Kids friends, Carmen (Alexa Vega), Juni (Daryl Sabara), their faithful dog Argonaut (Ricky Gervais) and some mind-blowing gadgets, they just may be able to save the world!

My favorite part of this Spy Kids DVD is that Jessica Alba is one of the stars. I think she is an awesome actress and was happy to see that she was involved with such a cute movie.

I almost forgot to mention the cool bonus materials that are included with the DVD we received.  The bonus features include an interview with director Robert Rodriguez, a Spy Gadgets Clip, deleted scenes and more!

Right now Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World is available on DVD at Amazon for only $14.99!

Disney’s Prep & Landing

When you have children and the topic of Santa Claus comes up, you might get asked some questions that you don’t necessarily know how to answer. One of those questions I had when I was little was “just how does Santa go to millions of home to deliver presents all in one night?”. Of course we are going to tell our children about Santa’s little elves, but will they really believe us?

I just watched Disney’s Prep & Landing and this is perfect to watch with those with little curious minds.

Prep & Landing is an adorable holiday story about a high-tech team of elves who ensure homes around the world are properly prepared for their visit from Santa. After working for a tireless 227 years, an elf named Wayne (voiced by Dave Foley) is upset when he doesn’t receive an expected promotion. Instead he is partnered with an idealistic rookie elf named Lanny (voiced by Derek Richardson) to execute a special Christmas Eve mission. While on their journey, Wayne and Lanny encounter unexpected challenges that push them to their limits and ultimately threaten Christmas for children around the world. But in the end, these two elves work together to guide Santa through a raging snowstorm in order to save Christmas.

Take a peek at the elves below…

My youngest two watched Prep & Landing yesterday and then I watched it again with them today. Normally I don’t watch the Bonus Features on our movies, but this one has some really cute bonus features that your children will enjoy.

You can buy Prep & Landing right now on Amazon for only $13.99.
