I LOVE BOOKS! Part of my daughter Hannah’s homework each night is reading. The teacher asks that someone reads to Hannah at least 15 minutes each day/night and log how many pages we read. I LOVE when I have my own books to read to Hannah instead of having her bring me one from her bookshelf. She is always excited too when I have a book that she has not seen. This past week we read The Sun and The Moon by Brian D. McClure.
Book Description:
It happened one day right out of the blue, the Sun told the Moon he was tired and through. “What do you mean?” the Moon asked the Sun, “That would be the end of everything, and that wouldn’t be fun!” The Sun and the Moon soon allow their fears to turn into anger. In that very instant, they walk out on their responsibilities, and cause unseen harm to the Earth and all who inhabit it. Eventually, the Sun and the Moon remember their interconnection with all, and quickly work together to restore balance. The Sun and the Moon is an entertaining story that reveals the unseen effects of fear and anger on others. It encourages children and adults to take a closer look at their behavior when they are overcome by anger.
My Thoughts:
I thought the book was cute. One thing I noticed was the lesson that you can learn about the effects of fighting. In the book, the sun and the moon are mad at each other. While they were just mad at each other, their problems caused problems with the rest of the world. I love reading stories that teach something within it. This book does have an age level of 9-12 so I did have to explain to my five year old what was going as we read along. She enjoyed the book too though!
