The Sun and the Moon Review

I LOVE BOOKS! Part of my daughter Hannah’s homework each night is reading. The teacher asks that someone reads to Hannah at least 15 minutes each day/night and log how many pages we read.  I LOVE when I have my own books to read to Hannah instead of having her bring me one from her bookshelf. She is always excited too when I have a book that she has not seen. This past week we read The Sun and The Moon by Brian D. McClure.

Book Description:
It happened one day right out of the blue, the Sun told the Moon he was tired and through. “What do you mean?” the Moon asked the Sun, “That would be the end of everything, and that wouldn’t be fun!” The Sun and the Moon soon allow their fears to turn into anger. In that very instant, they walk out on their responsibilities, and cause unseen harm to the Earth and all who inhabit it. Eventually, the Sun and the Moon remember their interconnection with all, and quickly work together to restore balance. The Sun and the Moon is an entertaining story that reveals the unseen effects of fear and anger on others. It encourages children and adults to take a closer look at their behavior when they are overcome by anger.

My Thoughts:

I thought the book was cute. One thing I noticed was the lesson that you can learn about the effects of fighting. In the book, the sun and the moon are mad at each other.  While they were just mad at each other, their problems caused problems with the rest of the world. I love reading stories that teach something within it. This book does have an age level of 9-12 so I did have to explain to my five year old what was going as we read along. She enjoyed the book too though!

About The Author:

Brian D. McClure is the author of a number of popular childrenÂ’s books. His books share a common theme of the interconnection and oneness of all, and resonate with simple Truths which are common to all of us. Brian believes that in order to end fear and violence in our world, we must all be proactive in helping everyone remember who they are.

Spice Up Your Life Review And Giveaway

Okay, many of you know that I LOVE to cook. I love trying new recipes and even have been publishing a cooking & kitchen themed blog the last couple months. Another thing that I LOVE is books. So know that I have a HUGE collection of cookbooks and cooking magazines. The bookshelf that contains all these books is one of my prize possessions in my eyes.

I recently had the opportunity to add another cool cookbook to my recipe book collection. I had the opportunity to review “Spice Up Your Life: The Flexitarian Way” by Bindu Grandhi. This book is full of healthy and nutritional recipes. Some of the recipes include ingredients that may make the dish a little spicy, you can always emit certain ingredients to make the dish non-spicy and still taste wonderful. For those unfamiliar with eating the Flexitarian Way, this involves eating a diet of primarily vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fruits, nuts, spices and an occasional serving of chicken or fish. Since last year I have been trying to eat healthy. I have cut back on eating out and am trying to cook a variety of dishes that all of my family will enjoy.

Not only does this book have a ton of yummy recipes, it includes some very useful information. If you have children, do you ever try to convince them to eat something because it is good for them. This book has a section dedicated to telling the reader just what the food item does and why it can be good for you to consume. I am going to be using this information when convincing my kids to eat their vegetables.

About The Author: Bindu Grandhi developed a passion for flavorful flexitarian cooking in her early 20’s. Her knowledge of good health and nutrition comes from her mother, Vasantha Prasad, author of “Indian Vegetarian Cooking from an American Kitchen” (Random House) and her father, Balasa L. Prasad, a physician and author of “Stop Overeating For Good” (Avery). In her first cookbook, she touts the health benefits of eating a flexitarian diet comprised primarily of vegetables, legumes, whole grains, spices, fruits and nuts with an occasional serving of chicken and fish. She believes that eating a tasty and satisfying nutritional meal is exactly what our mind craves and body needs.
She has an MBA from NYU along with 10 years of corporate experience. She works part-time and lives with her family in Westchester County, New York.
