If you have small children, you are most likely like me when it comes to taking them into BIG crowds, nervous. Every year we try to go to the California State Fair. There are thousands of people there and I am always nervous whenever my kids are not right by my side. Even when they get older, you worry about their safety.
Check out these alarming stats:
- 1,315,600 children were missing from their caregivers during 1999 (OJJDP, 2002). That is over 3600 missing children every day, one every 24 seconds. Of these, 797,500 were reported missing to the police or other agencies, and 198,000 were lost or injured.
- Every day, more than 39,000 children are injured seriously enough to require medical treatment, more than 14 million children each year (National SAFE KIDS Campaign, 2002).
- During the year 2000, 387,000 bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages were injured in accidents, 129,000 of them traffic related (USDOT/FHWA, 2003).
One thing that I have that helps me feel a little better about this type of situation is some very neat ID bracelets we received from ID On Me to review. These are fashionable little bracelets that have a spot that opens that holds a piece of paper with important information. These bracelets are comfortable and also water resistant. You can put emergency information, medical and family contact information in them that would be needed in case of an emergency.
These ID bracelets are not just for children. They are adjustable which means they are for adults too. They come in a large variety of colors. They are great for kids and travel outdoor enthusiasts. Each bracelet comes with 4 information inserts in case the information needs to be changed or updated.
So now when we go to the fair this year or any other place that I might be concerned about, my children will be sporting their ID On Me bracelets. Take a peek at the variety below....
Pretty neat huh? A mom just like me (Marie Fishman), designed these handy bracelets when her sons were young. She wanted to be able to have something her boys could wear all the time that would contain all her contact information. She has also deliberately kept her prices low on the bracelets to help those large families with a limited income have the ability to purchase these.
