Do any of you have those old wall heaters in your home? I have to admit that I own a rather old house. Well, it was built in 1958 so it is going on 51 years old this year. My grandmother was the first owner of the house, when she passed a few years ago, I became the proud owner. One of the things I dislike about my house is the heating and cooling. It is very old fashioned to me. I used to live in an apartment for most of my life and was used to the central heating and air. Even the house I lived in before this one was converted.
Another problem is I have 2 wall heaters and only one of them work. Luckily the one in the back of the house by our bedrooms works. So we can sleep and be nice and warm. It takes hours for the heat to come to the living room and kitchen area. Right now, I cannot afford to hire a heating contractor just yet to fix my problem so I just deal with it. I can admit that I have turned on the oven a few times and left it open to warm up my kitchen where I work at. Yes, my desk is in my kitchen but that is OK! I have a perfect view to the living room where I can watch my kids and work at the same time.

I just got into a house that was built in 1930! It's gas line no longer works so we're using the plug in heaters. I saw on of those wall heaters in the bathroom. Does it look like a gas stove thingy? with a "cage" around it? It's actually very ornate and pretty but the toilet paper is hanging right above it so I know it hasn't been used in forever. What a fire hazard! We live in TX though so central heat isn't enough of a concern to take the effort to install it.I just happened to move in on the coldest week we have had all winter.
Oh - the heat! I totally can relate. Although we live in a house that is a little newer, our heater has gone out on us this year and it was freezing! We've been dressing warm for our house.
